FA Cup Draw This Weekend

The FA Cup is back and with the final qualifying round due to be played on Saturday we find out our first round opponents on Sunday afternoon.

Both League One and League Two teams will go into the hat with the 32 winners from Saturday's games to make up the first round and for Alex fans there is only one tie we want at the moment.

Nantwich Town are enjoying a good cup run at the moment and they're just one home win against Nuneaton Town away from making the first round proper for the first time in their history.

A bit of luck could see one tastier games in the FA Cup - the CW derby. Although it apparently won't be our first competitive meeting, Wikipedia has us down as defeating them 5-1 in the FA Cup 5th Qualifying Round just a few years back in 1900-01.

As great as it'd be to see, it could also come back to bite us. Our recent record against non-league sides has not been the best, humiliation to the Dabbers is not needed right now.

Last year we were left thoroughly red faced by a pretty decent and up-for-it Tamworth. The year before that it was the typical Crewe Alexandra capitulation as we allowed York to come back from 1-2 down to win 3-2 in the last four minutes.

Another draw to a mid-table Blue Square Premier side may well be looked on with dread.

There are though plenty of grassroots clubs we could find ourselves facing (Arlesey Town? Hebburn Town?) and, of course, a chance of a plain awful tie to Carlisle or the like.

The draw is made live on ITV1 this Sunday afternoon at 1:30PM and if you want to prepare yourself, this Saturday's set of fixtures (and potential 1st Round opposition) is on the FA website by clicking here.
