With the new season nearly upon us, we begin to ask the various Vital Network editors a few questions about the upcoming season. First up is Vital Oldham editor Carl Clare.
Club Name: Oldham Athletic
Where did you finish last season? 10th
Who is your best player? Ritchie Wellens
How will you fare this season?
Unless we sign a replacement for Luke Beckett, I fear we are looking at mid table obscurity whilst nervously looking over our shoulders. If we have bad luck again with injuries I fear the worst as we will be relying on youngsters in this scenario due to lack of funds. If we can bring in a 15 goal a season striker to replace Luke Beckett and can keep injuries to a minimum, then we may be in with another shot at the playoffs.
How do you think Crewe will adapt to life in League One?
Gradi has always had a reputation for playing good football and unlike the Championship, 75 percent of the teams in this league will play hoofball, so defending shouldn't be as difficult. Last time crewe came down they bounced back up in 2002/2003 but saying that, you did have Dean Ashton and Rob Hulse in your team. I cant see Crewe finishing in the top two as there have been quite a few big spenders this season with qualtiy throughout. I think it will be a close league again and if Crewe can learn how to play against the more physical route 1 teams then I think you are in with a chance of the playoffs, otherwise mid table.
Who will be promoted? Doncaster and Bristol City Automatic, Forest through Playoffs
Who will be relegated? Rotherham, Brentford, Cheltenham, Yeovil.
