The Railwaymen's Best Ever Comeback

The Railwaymen's Best Ever Comeback

So, mixed in with Ivory FC and Nivea's Great Football Experiment, I have a question, what was our best comeback ever?!

It was a question posed over on the Vital GFE blog and I couldn't really think of one that sticks out.

When you think of Crewe and comebacks these days your mind instantly wanders to the away trips to Morecambe and Chesterfield in the last couple of years.

I doubt anyone expected us to top scuppering a 1-3 lead with 3 minutes of normal time to go, somehow we managed it last September at Chesterfield. 4-1 up with 15 minutes to go then 3-5 with a couple of minutes to go and we still managed to draw.

As for OUR great comebacks? Well it's almost 5 years to the week we came back from 1-3 down at Gresty Road against Gillingham to win, with 2 goals in the last 5 minutes, 4-3.

Or, how about the brilliant Kevin Street coming off the bench against Norwich in January 1999 with the Alex 2-0 down at home to Norwich. With less than 10 minutes left no-one would have given us a hope but Streety helped turn it into a 3-2 with with two goals and a third from Mark Rivers in the final 8 minutes!

There must be more that have slipped my mind however....?

Episode Seven of the Great Football Experiment is now out, below is the teaser and the link to the full episode:

And now onto your team....! Ivory made a great comeback to win the other week, what is the greatest comeback we`ve ever made?

Video: Doncaster Rovers (H)

Crewe Alexandra managed to give supporters a long-awaited victory in their final home game of the season against Doncaster Rovers.

Davis happy with finale

Manager Steve Davis was happy and doubtless very relieved to witness Crewe Alexandra complete their home programme with a 3-1 victory against Doncaster Rovers.

Crewe recover for victory

Crewe Alexandra came from behind for a first win in sixteen games and to drag Doncaster Rovers down into League Two with them for next season.

Kick-off was delayed by half-an-hour due to a waterlogged playing surface and Tommy Rowe gave the visitors the lead through a deflected strike.

However, youngster Callum Ainley equalised with his first senior goal before the break and Marcus Haber and substitute Brad Inman added second-half efforts.
