Football League Vote To Reduce Sub Numbers
Football League clubs have voted to reduce the number of substitutes available on a match day this forthcoming season from seven to five.
The change comes not too many years since the substitute numbers rose to seven but today's change is in the hope of helping clubs financially. It should also favour the smaller clubs, who inevitably have the smaller squads available.
For us, it's unlikely to make too much of an impact. You could argue that it could prohibit a couple of youngsters getting a chance to break through but having spent a large portion of last season leaving a space or two free on the bench, there are unlikely to be too many complaints.
Clubs will still be able to name seven for Carling Cup games.
