Alex Youngster In England Call-Up

Young academy midfielder Danny Smith has been called up to the new England U-17's squad today.

The 18 man squad was selected by former Alex player Kenny Swain for next month's 'Nordic Tournament'.

With all age groups stepping up a level ahead of the new season, the Nordic Tournament allows the England youngsters to transfer from U-16 football to U-17s seamlessly.

The tournament runs from Saturday 30th July to Monday 8th August in Iceland, with England facing the likes of Faroe Islands, Norway and Iceland.

Max Clayton of course played a part as England won the tournament last year. Clayton, Nick Powell and Ben Garratt all became regulars for the U-17s with Clayton and Powell playing a major part in England's U-17 World Cup campaign in recent weeks.

For Smith however it is first England call up, so congratulations and good luck!
