One Win, One Draw To Kick Off Pre-Season

It was a fairly decent start to the pre-season warm up on Monday night as the Alex saw off Congleton 4-0 even if a more defence minded side could only manage a 0-0 at Rhyl.

Byron Moore grabbed the headlines in Congleton with a brace inside 17 minutes. Teenager Brendan Daniels came off the bench to immediately make it 3-0 in the second half whilst trialist, Gillingham striker Mark McCammon (pictured) made it four.

Dario watched on as fellow trialists Alan Martin, Josh Gowling and Curtis Haynes-Brown also staked their claim for a contract at Gresty Road.

Meanwhile in Rhyl, the splitting of the two sides into attack and defence tonight really showed as a young attack couldn't break a Rhyl rearguard.

There were however run outs for Tootle, Artell, Dugdale, Murphy, Bell, Shelley and Phillips whilst Harry Davis was given a chance at right back.

There were also trialists in the form of Welsh striker Mike Burke, midfielder Steve Powell and Alex returnee Mat Bailey in Wales. Assistant manager Steve Davis also gave midfielder Leigh Craven a run out, the 23 year old midfielder has previously been on the Alex's books as a youngster in the academy and is currently playing in the Welsh leagues.
