Alex Youngster Part Of Europa Qualifier

The Alex may have zero chance of entering the Europa League any time soon, or at least till they change the Fair Play League prize, but with Alex youngsters Kelvin Mellor and Jordan Connerton out on loan to Icelandic side IBV this summer, at least this season we have had some representation.

Last night IBV played their first qualifier (first leg) for the Europa League against Irish side St Patrick`s Athletic and came out on top. The Icelandic side take a 1-0 lead into this second leg with a penalty five minutes into the second half, managing to hold firm under pressure for the rest of the game.

Unfortunately Jordan Connerton didn't feature due to a persistent hernia problem but Kelvin Mellor played the full 90 minutes at the heart of the IBV defence. Mellor played alongside former Alex youngster Matt Garner who, after a loan spell at IBV during him time at Gresty Road, won himself a permanent deal following his release.

The second leg of the qualifier is due to take place at St Patrick's on Tuesday 7th July.
