Crewe Miss Out On Striker 'Target'

If Accrington Stanley's Terry Gornell was indeed a target for Dario this summer then it looks like the race for his signature has been lost with Gornell opting to join Inverness Caley Thistle.

The 21 year old was mentioned by the papers as a possible replacement for Clayton Donaldson and his name has remained in the frame for much of the summer.

Gornell had only been with Accy for a year, signing last August from Tranmere to play 40 games up front, scoring 13. He rejected a new deal in Lancashire this week with suitors in the form of, apparently, ourselves, Hibs and MK Dons.

At 6ft 1in he'd have provided some much needed height, which has gone with Donaldson's imminent departure, although at 21 there'd have been a compensation fee payable to Accy, something Inverness avoid with the compensation rule not mutual between FA's. Remember how we never got a penny for Michael Higdon? No, nor me.

Whether Gornell ever was on Dario's wish list, there's no real way of knowing unless the man himself spills the beans. The news however will do nothing to quell the unrest as everyone around us moves for new players whilst we have nothing but silence from our club.
