Alex Trio Set For England World Cup Campaign

The Alex's England U-17 internationals Nick Powell, Max Clayton and Ben Garratt are gearing up for the Under-17 World Cup which gets under way this weekend.

The young England squad have been out in Mexico, the host nation, for over a week now and are looking to get their campaign started with a tie against Rwanda this Sunday.

A behind closed doors warm up game against Ivory Coast has already given the Alex youngsters a chance to stretch their legs this week, with Nick Powell helping lead England to a 5-4 victory. Powell netted twice in the first half only to be stunned by a four goal come back before half time. England though showed great character to build a come back of their own with three second half goals, including a penalty won by Max Clayton.

Powell, Clayton and Garratt will all be hoping to have done enough to make their way into John Peacocks side this Sunday with two further group games against Canada and Uruguay to come in the next week or so.

Having denied the ever lauded Spain the chance to play in Mexico, England's chances of success cannot be underestimated but they will have to improve on their European Championships performance of last month, which saw them limp out in the semi-final to the Netherlands.

The Netherlands are also likely opposition in the last 16 in Mexico should England not manage to win their group.

We will be covering the tournament and the trio's progress here on Vital Crewe with all the matches being covered by Eurosport, it's well worth setting your Sky+.
