Bradford City boss Peter Jackson says he expects Clayton Donaldson to make the move up the leagues to the Championship as the saga drags on.
The Bantams are known admirers of Donaldson - but who isn't?- and have already confirmed they've approached last season's top league scorer about a move to his home town club this summer.
A move to Valley Parade however has always been the less likely destination for Donaldson with clubs from Coventry to Chesterfield also linked with approaches as well as clubs from abroad taking an interest, the Alex's offer of an extended stay at Gresty Road also remains on the table.
Donaldson himself has remained quiet over his future but with only a couple of weeks before his contract at the Alex truly expires and clubs around the country get pre-season training under way, his future is more than likely to be sorted in the coming days.
Bradford's Jackson this week played down their chances of enticing Donaldson to the club he supports.
Jackson told the BBC'He'll have a lot of options and options from possibly two divisions above us so at this stage I would say it's unlikely but we're still in there.'
Unsurprisingly, Dario summed up our own chances of getting Donaldson to put pen to paper in a similar fashion. He told CreweAlex.net:
'We are still waiting on Byron and Clayton (Donaldson) to see if they accept our offer of a contract.
'The feedback we have got so far is that it remains unlikely that Clayton may re-sign for us, but he is still keeping his options open and we are not totally out of it.'
It all comes as no surprise, you don't expect the Football League's top scorer to spurn the chance of moving up a division or two like that.
