Vital Player Of The Season: Clayton Donaldson

It needs little build up, he's already bagged the slightly-more-prestigious Player of the Season awards from Crewe ASi and Sandbach Travelling Alex, but today we can announce Clayton Donaldson as Vital Crewe Alexandra Player of the Season.

There was absolutely no doubt about it once the Bradford born striker smashed his way to the top of the Football League scoring charts. Only his partner in crime, Shaun Miller, came close to toppling him.

It tops off one great season from Clayton. It's something not many would have seen coming in October, when he was dropped to the bench for that not-to-be-spoken-of match at Chesterfield.

Just two goals, both against Barnet, in his first 11 games of the season wasn't the return many fans had hoped to see from ClayDo. However, his late one against Chesterfield was to set him on his way to a superb season.

With the best goal to minute ratio in the league, his worst spell for the remainder of the season was just a four match barren patch in March.

He went from strength to strength through the season. From a missing sitter after sitter, he was soon netting some crackers against the likes of Chesterfield as Dario got him to simplify his game.

He offered it all to the team; pace, power, goals, height, a variety of hairstyles and a nuisance that every opposition fan hated.

He may be on his way out of the club this summer but he leaves with the best wishes of most of the fans who saw him tear more than a couple of League Two sides to shreds.

Player of the Season results:

1. Clayton Donaldson - 8.5/10
2. Shaun Miller - 8.3/10
3. Patrick Ada - 7.6/10
4. Matt Tootle - 7.4/10
