Powell Injured As England Cruise To Victory

Nick Powell was stretchered off with his leg in a splint today as England cruised to a 3-0 victory over U-17 European Championship hosts Serbia.

The 17 year old Alex youngster went over on his ankle towards the end of the first half with TV replays suggesting Powell will be lucky to escape without a nasty injury.

It comes soon after Dario voiced his concern over the amount of games England's youngsters are being asked to play, with the Under-17s World Cup coming up in a few weeks.

The terrible state of the pitch in Serbia will also come into question, which you could argue was partly at fault for Powell's injury.

England had already stormed into a 3-0 lead before Powell had gone off. The prolific Hallam Hope with two and defender Ben Smith getting England's other. Powell, meanwhile, was replaced by Alex team mate Max Clayton.

With both teams needing a win to secure a place in next month's U-17 World Cup, hosts Serbia took the game to England in the second half.

However, England held firm and with Denmark beating France not only did the Three Lions secure a place in June's World Cup, they also progress to the semi-final of the U-17 Euro Championships.

The success however has been overshadowed by the injury to Powell. He was taken to hospital and I'm sure everyone will be hoping it's not as bad as it first looked.
