Clayton and Powell Unable To Halt Denmark

Nick Powell and Max Clayton played in England's second match of the U-17 Championships but were unable to stop the Danes running out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Powell played the full 80 minutes whilst Max Clayton was brought off the bench for the injured Raheem Sterling on 35 minutes.

However, it was a slow start and poor defending that undid England as they fell to a 2-0 deficit within 25 minutes of kick off.

The England youngsters struggled to put much pressure on the Danish defence, the best chance falling to Max Clayton in the second half as his superb volley from 20 yards crashed the crossbar.

Both Clayton and Powell were certainly two of England's brighter players but it still proved too easy for Denmark. Goalkeeper Ben Garratt remained an unused substitute.

England now face a all or nothing game against hosts Serbia on Monday afternoon. Currently sitting bottom of the group, they'll need to win to give them a chance of progressing through the group and into the semi-finals. They will also need Denmark to at least hold France.

A defeat on the other hand would be disastrous as England need to finish in the top three of the four team group in order to qualify for June's Under-17 World Cup.
