Donaldson's Not Gone Yet

Dario has said that Clayton Donaldson's future is not yet set in stone despite many fans belief that the league's top scorer will be departing the club this summer.

The 27 year old's contract is coming to an end and, with a game left in the season, he's already been linked to the likes of big spending Crawley Town, Oxford United and Huddersfield.

With the club making big budget cuts, most Alex fans have long had Donaldson down as a certain departure this summer. Dario, though, says he's not so sure ClayDo will be set on leaving Gresty Road.

He told thisisstaffordshire.co.uk that he will be talking to Donaldson in the hope of convincing him to stay for next season:

I'm led to believe that might not quite be the case, so we'll have a go at keeping Clayton.

'I'd have thought that a lot of clubs would have been keen to sign him on a free transfer, and it might be done and dusted - but I don't think it is.

'Maybe he'll say 'Thank you very much Dario, but I already know what I'm doing next year.' I'll talk to him and see.'

So whilst Dario admits he's still assuming Donaldson will be going, there does seem to be a bit of straw clutching going on.

It would be quite a coup if Dario covinced Donaldson to remain but with League One clubs circling and the chance to boost his wage beyond anything we can dream of paying; it seems one of the certainties in life at the moment, Donaldson will not be in the red and white of Crewe next season.
