Crewe Pay The Penalty In Premier Cup Final

Crewe Alexandra's second string lost their grip on the Cheshire Premier Cup on Tuesday night, losing to Stockport County on penalties in the final.

Steve Davis lead a side which included first team names such as Patrick Ada, Adam Dugdale, Luke Murphy and Nick Powell at Edgeley Park.

It wasn't a classic however, both sides drew blanks for the first 90 minutes as Antoni Sarcevic flashed a volley wide and Steve Phillips was equal to chances from Tom Fisher in the second half.

With the match into extra time, it was substitute Max Clayton who broke the deadlock on 95 minutes. The 16 year old was put through on goal by his England U-17 team mate and he made no mistake in putting the Alex 1-0 up.

The lead, however, was short lived as County's Tom Fisher struck home an equaliser from the edge of the area within minutes.

The game was forced into a penalty shoot out and despite Phillips saving Stockport's first of the evening, misses from Sean Cooke and Patrick Ada saw the Hatters claim the Cup.
