Powell Helps England To Defeat Spain
Nick Powell played his part as England U-17s progressed to the European Under-17 Championships with an impressive 2-1 win over Spain.
The win means a clean sweep for England in their Elite Round group, with wins also coming over Belgium and Northern Ireland earlier in the week, games in which Powell netted.
The recently turned 17 year old was not to be on the score sheet in tonight's game in Brussels but quick fire goals from Birmingham's Nathan Redmond and Middlesbrough's Adam Jackson was enough to send the pre-match favourites out of the competition. Spain did score a consolation four minutes into added time.
Powell meanwhile left the action six minutes from time, his Alex team mates Max Clayton, who had played in England's previous two games, and Ben Garratt were unused substitutes.
England now progress to the tournament finals to be held in Serbia this May, which Powell, Clayton and Garratt will no doubt be hoping to be part of. The likes of Germany, Netherlands and France have also qualified.
