Taylor To Reclaim Place

Taylor To Reclaim Place

Dario has unsurprisingly decided to stick with Rhys Taylor between the sticks despite saying last week that Steve Phillips had the chance to pin down the number one spot against Hereford.

Phillips stood in whilst Taylor was on Wales Under-21 duty on Sunday but in a game where Hereford didn't even register a shot on target, with their goal coming from a wicked deflection, there wasn't really much chance for the Somerset keeper to really stake his claim.

As we know though, it's little to do with performances when it comes to selecting the keeper. It's unlikely Chelsea will have allowed an up and coming keeper like Taylor to come and sit on the bench for free, leaving Dario feeling to need to tell short stories to justify keeping Taylor in no matter what.

We've seen it before, with Phillips helping us to arguable one of our best defensive performances with 10 men against Bradford in the 2-1 win at Gresty Road. Phillips was dropped for the for next game.

It looked like the end for the former Bristol Rovers man with his contract running out and Taylor signed up for the rest of the season, but he pleased fans by committing himself to the 2011/2012 season at Gresty Road.

So, with Taylor keeping a clean sheet for Wales U-21's against Andorra on Tuesday night, the youngster will be back in the Alex team for Saturday with Dario saying Taylor's done nothing wrong to be dropped.

But it all comes back to: does it really matter with seven dead rubbers remaining?
