Artell and Dario Resolve 'Differences'

David Artell has said that he was disappointed with Dario's decision to replace him with Ashley Westwood five minutes from the end of Saturday's match but says there's no issue between player and manager.

Dario took his captain off just prior to Danny Shelley`s sealing goal, with Dario saying he felt Westwood would cope better with the threat of Jack Lester than Artell, who was on a yellow card, would in the dying minutes of the game.

It appears now that Artell was far from happy with the decision made by Dario but the former Morecambe man is denying there`s been a bust up, though there hasn`t really been talk of one anyway.

Artell today told the media that his initial attempts to talk to Dario had been rebuffed by the veteran manager but says they`ve since discussed the substitution and put the issue to bed.

Artell told The Crewe Chronicle: "I asked Dario why I was being taken off and he told me in no uncertain terms that it was the wrong time [to talk].

"My professional pride got the better of me and I was disappointed to come off, but he is the manager and he has to make those decisions.

"I hope it is not blown out of proportion. I have more respect for Dario than for any other manager I have played under.

"He is always fair, honest and straight with players. He doesn`t mind upsetting players with his decisions and does things for the benefit of the team and the club."

It`s not the first time the two have disagreed, Dario has on a couple of occasions this season admitted that Artell will readily argue his point in the changing room. However, in a changing room where the average age is not much over 20, it`s probably healthy to have a few old heads offering their point of view - even if there`s no chance of changing Dario.
