Forward Fighting for Future

27-year old striker Lee Matthews is training with the club. The 6'1 striker has had an injury-plagued career, but is hoping to impress in training in order to earn himself a contract.

Injury meant that last season was a washout for Matthews, though he enjoyed an impressive season with Port Vale the previous year, scoring 10 goals in his 21 starts. Matthews began his career as a trainee with Leeds, though he failed to establish himself, making just 3 substitute appearances. During that time, Matthews went on loan to Notts County, Gillingham and Bristol City.

One goal in just one substitute appearance persuaded Bristol City to depart with £100,000 for his services, but in his 3 years with the club, injury restricted Matthews to 8 goals in his 42 appearances for the club, of which just 14 were starts. Following 3 more loan spells at Darlington, Bristol Rovers and Yeovil, Matthews made the switch to Port Vale.
