Donaldson Still Has Play-Off Hopes

Clayton Donaldson is hoping the Alex can push back up towards the play-off picture after his hat-trick on Saturday rounded off a confidence boosting 4-1 victory over Burton Albion.

The win ended a run of six games without a win, a spell in which we lost five of those games. Dropping from 3rd to 13th, the once real hope of promotion was on the verge of being extinguished till the Donaldson and Miller partnership hit 33 goals for the season.

They were Donaldson's first goals since he returned from his three match suspension last month and his first ever Football League hat-trick, and Donaldson says he hopes it will be the start of another run to get back in play-off contention.

'It was nice of the manager to keep me on and give me that chance to get the hat-trick.

'Shaun and I have a good understanding and I feel there is a lot more goals to come from us.

'Hopefully we can get a run going again now. It was important to stop the rot as we've fallen behind in the league.'

It all starts with a trip to Macclesfield tomorrow evening where Donaldson and Miller are set to continue their partnership up front and a win would set us up nicely for the coming weeks.

A visit from Chesterfield followed by games against play-off rivals Oxford and Southend are set to really test our credentials before the end of the month.

If we come through those games though, our run-in for the final weeks of the season is more favourable than most.
