Eyeing Up A Juicy Sell-On
Former Alex striker Nicky Maynard is back on the scoring trail after months out with a knee injury. His return this month, his first action of the season, has seen him net two goals in his first two starts for Bristol City and a whole host of Premiership Clubs watching his every move.
Maynard was linked with a move to Fulham before his injury last summer and today's rumours suggest that the likes of Aston Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Newcastle and Celtic are all keen on his services.
A move into the Premiership would be richly deserved for Nicky. Despite some suggestions he may not have been able to make the step up from League One when he left Gresty Road in 2008, his phenomenal strike rate has not let up. After 35 goals in 57 starts during his time at the Alex he has gone on to net 34 goals in 82 starts for Bristol City, a career strike rate of just under one goal every two games, and he outscored Liverpool's £35,000,000 man Andy Carroll in the Championship last season.
With just over 12 months on his Bristol City contract remaining, the Robins will be hoping to see their biggest asset commit his future to the club sooner rather than later.
Alex fans, however, will be keeping a keen eye on his immediate future. The Railwaymen netted £2.25million from the original sale in 2008, but with a good sell-on percentage of any profit in place a big money move to the big time for Maynard would prove quite a windfall for the Alex.
