Westwood Rejoins The Railwaymen On Short Term Deal

The Alex have today confirmed the re-signing of Ashley Westwood on a short term contract.

The 34 year old defender spent three years at Gresty Road in the mid-90's, helping us to our first rise into the Championship in 1996/1997, after originally arriving from Manchester United's youth ranks.

He left the club in 1998 to join Bradford City where he'd go on to make the occasional appearance in the Premier League for the Yorkshire club. Since then he has gone on to rack up eight difference clubs in 11 years with his best spells coming at Sheffield Wednesday, who paid Bradford £150,000 for his services, and Wrexham where he made over 60 appearances in two years for the Conference club.

He recently returned to the Alex after asking Dario for a trial at the club and with Dario desperately searching for a more resolute defence the trial has swiftly been turned into a short term deal.

However, it's one signing fans will not be jumping for joy over. A 34 year old who has recently left a mid-table Conference side isn't the type of signing you can see improving such a fragile defensive line; is it just a case of Dario doing favours for the old boys?
