Today's game against Accrington is called off

Today's match between Crewe and Accrington has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The covers had been placed on the pitch but did nothing to stop the -4C temperatures taking hold and ending the chance of a game taking place today.

The match was called off after a 12PM pitch inspection. No new date has been confirmed for the game.

It's hugely disappointing considering covers were supposed to be efficient enough to handle such temperatures but once again it looks like the Main Stand has a lot to answer for.

On the plus side it gives the players time to recuperate after a gruelling second half against Bradford whilst David Artell, who is still rated doubtful for Tuesday's trip to Northampton, is one game closer to a come back.

On the down side, Clayton Donaldson's three match suspension carries over to the game against fellow promotion hopefuls Gillingham unless the Accrington game can be slotted in before then. He is already set to miss Northampton and Rotherham next week.
