Zola Agrees Burton Move

Calvin Zola this afternoon has signed for League Two rivals Burton Albion, snubbing Northampton Town in the process. The 26 year old striker has spent the last week talking over his options after both Albion and the Cobblers made an approach to sign him.

He departs after two and a half years at the cub after arriving from Tranmere Rovers for £200,000. Making 52 starts and 15 sub appearances, the 6ft 6in Congolese scored 21 league goals in his time at Gresty Road.

Though his dreadful injury record has certainly blotted his time at the Alex, he was for the large part of last season the club's most important player as he netted 18 goals to help keep the Alex away from relegation trouble.

As Dario favoured the in-form partnership of Shaun Miller and Clayton Donaldson this season Zola's opportunities this season have been limited and not helped by even more injury woes.

His last appearance for the Alex came back in October's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Macclesfield Town when he came on as a last minute substitution.

Zola joins the Brewers on loan for the rest of the season, with his contract running out in the summer the deal will likely be made permanent for next season.
