Zola Set For Cobblers Move?

Calvin Zola is subject of more rumours regarding his exit from Gresty Road with Northampton reportedly renewing their interest in the striker today.

The 6ft 3in Congolese man is known to have been a Northampton target earlier this season with Chairman David Cardoza confirming their interest back in October. Having been rejected by Bristol City's John Akinde in their search for a striker this January transfer window all attentions have turned back to Zola.

Cardoza told Northampton's Chronicle and Echo this morning that his club are now commencing talks with an unnamed striker, whom he says was amongst the top scorers last season, commanded a six figure transfer fee recently and is only kept out of his current team by an in-form partnership. Certainly sounds like Zola.

Adding a bit more weight to the rumour this afternoon was Cobblers striker Leon McKenzie who wrote on his Twitter account that Zola had been down in Northampton this afternoon.

It is, of course, well known that Dario is looking to ship out Zola after a poor 2010 and just six months remaining on his contract. Despite scoring 18 goals last term, he's managed just one this season and, having not played since the beginning of October, he's been completely frozen out of the side by the form of Miller and Donaldson, who have bagged 25 goals between them already this season.

The timing however does seem odd, with Dario commenting recently on how Zola has failed to train much in recent months and didn't expect to see him break back into the first 11 any time soon.

It's not a done deal however, you cannot forget the handful of League Two clubs Zola turned down a loan move to back in October, reportedly due to him wanting a permanent deal.
