Crewe Expect Weekend Game To Be Off

The club are saying they expect the weekend game against Wycombe Wanderers, due to take place at Gresty Road on Saturday, is likely to be off as the snow and ice continues its grip across the country.

Wycombe Wanderers secretary Keith Allen, not he who writes World Cup songs I assume, says that they have been told not to expect the game to go ahead.

Whilst Dario was hopeful the pitch covers and a forecast of rain (who the hell told him that?) would see the game on, the club have revised their expectations.

Allen told the Wycombe official website that a pitch inspection is due to take place at 12:00pm on Friday with the likelihood the game will be then called off:

'At this stage, the prospects of us playing on Saturday look remote. There is frost in the ground, snow lying on top of the pitch covers and more frost is anticipated, including Friday night.

'They are having a pitch inspection at lunchtime on Friday and they expect that the game will be postponed.'

Temperatures are said to be rising over the weekend, though obviously not enough to thaw a pitch which is forever in the shadow of the main stand. So hopefully we won't go too long without a game due to the weather, and our only consolation is that a good 75% of fixtures this weekend could well be off also.
