Former Alex Captain Takes Charge Of Leek

Former Watford, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Alex defender Neil Cox has gone into management, with his first job at Leek Town.

Cox, who turns 39 on Friday, spent two years at the heart of the Alex defence (and midfield) between 2006 and 2008. He made over 60 appearances before retiring from the game at the end of the 2007-2008 season.

Following his retirement, the former Alex captain moved to Portugal where he became a property developer before returning to the UK earlier this year. After doing his UEFA B coaching licence, Cox even turned out for Sunday League side Nantwich Wanderers.

He's made no secret of his management ambitions and this week took on his first job at Evo Stik First Division South side Leek Town, who currently sit 17th in the league.

Leek, of course, is former assistant-manager, current chief scout Neil Baker's old stomping ground. Bakes spent eight years with the Staffordshire club where he guided them to promotion into the Northern Premier League and an FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

Good luck to Cox in his new job!
