Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson was understandably frustrated that his side failed to take home three points last night having seen an Ajay Leitch-Smith equaliser three minutes from time.
It was a bad night for the Alex, with the lack of a notable strike force becoming even more evident. Despite a good majority of possession, Clayton Donaldson and Shaun Miller struggled to really challenge the keeper, instead sending shots flashing wide. It was left to relative rookie Ajay Leitch-Smith to lash home the lifeline just seven minutes after coming on.
Despite having almost half the ball time than the Railwaymen, Macclesfield registered two or three good saves from keeper Rhys Taylor and saw a second goal disallowed for a foul inside the area.
As Macc manager Gary Simpson says, it's all about what you do with the ball and not how long you have it:
'They had a lot of play with their passing and movement but they didn't really create that much in our box.
'It's a decent point but we're disappointed we didn't get the three.
'It's about what you do in the box, you've got to be effective whether you keep the ball or put it in the box and create a chance and I think we're starting become a bit more effective in both boxes.'
The Alex dropped down to 11th last night but stay within 2 points of the play-off spots with the league extremely tight, three points separating 7th-18th.
The next month is going to separate the men from the boys though, starting with 2nd place Chesterfield on Saturday we also facing 6th spot Torquay, Aldershot and Southend with a October finale of the big one - temporary league leaders Port Vale.
We need goals!
