DG: Referees should just do their job properly

Dario had some harsh words both for the referee and his own players following yesterday's 1-1 draw against Oxford United.

Whilst Chris 'Missed the point entirely' Wilder played the blame game with some pretty disgraceful and disrespectful comments, suggesting his side were victims of a certain attitude around Gresty Road, Dario was more than happy to hold his hands up and put a portion of blame on his players.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Dario said that those who lost their head during the final 15 minutes of the game will be dealt with, suggesting the likes of David Artell, who was booked in the mayhem, will be first in line for a punishment.

Dario also had more than a few harsh words for the referee. Having let Oxford get away with some pretty cynical play throughout the first half whilst only handing out one yellow, the referee lost all control of the game going into the final minutes.

'The main part of the game was the fact the referee allowed so many fouls before he booked people, I would think the ratio was about 3 to about 30.

'I'm not asking for protection from referees, I just think they should do their job properly. I don't know how many fouls he gave in the first half but he was the only person in the ground who didn't think there was a booking coming along soon.

'Then the players lost their head just as we had done enough to win the game. When they lose their head they do stupid things and once they're doing stupid things it's out of my control.

'It's not so much our (academy) players, although Westy needs a revision course on it, it's the players that come in. They've probably been doing it all their lives and think that's the way to behave but they know I won't tolerate that.

'I've got to ear mark the right people before I do anything about it but I will ear mark the right people and if that happens again then it'll be the last time.'

On the game itself, Dario believes we did enough to win it until mayhem ensued. Oxford had to make do with one worthwhile chance throughout the game whilst Dario is left ruing the lack of a clinical finisher up front.

Miller, Donaldson and even Murphy all saw good chances go begging throughout the game and Dario would not be drawn on the disallowed goal saga.

'It was a game of few chances. I think they only had one and they had two or three go's at that.

'We had more of the play but we're not taking the chances. Clayton had a chance, Shaun blazed a few chances, so there's still that bit of quality up there.

'We didn't make a lot of chances in the first half but they didn't actually make any so I think [Chris Wilder] will be more pleased with a point than I am.

'I don't really know what happened. I couldn't see what they were trying to do but they appeared to make a mess of it, unless they got it right in the end in which case you'd have to say it was worth the hassle.'
