£2million Powell Linked With Arsenal. Again.

I said last week to prepare yourself for silly season after Nick Powell had stolen the show at Stevenage. Well, it's started.

The News Of The World is now 'reporting' that Arsene Wenger is looking to snap up the 16 year old within the year for a fee of up to £2million.

It comes as no surprise, Arsenal were linked with Powell earlier in the summer but Dario, quite rightly, told the London club where to go.

The same News Of The World article goes on to suggest that Liverpool are also likely to step up their interest in Powell's England U-17 team mate Max Clayton at the end of the season.

Clayton, who turned 16 last month, has already been linked with Anfield on numerous occasions in the last couple of years and was at the centre of a 'player poaching scandal' last year.

Whilst Clayton is still yet to make his first team bow, despite training with the first team for the last couple of weeks; Nick Powell came off the bench today for just his third appearance for the Railwaymen, winning a late penalty.

This renewed interest, should there be any truth in it, will no doubt get a similar response in the coming week. Not only because £2million for Powell right now would be an insult but because Dario has always insisted that the player's best interest comes first, and it is certainly not in Powell's or Clayton's best interest to sit in the Premiership reserves.
