'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Tuesday Snippets

* Matt Tootle is close to a return and could start Saturday's home game with Bury.

Toots has been out for the last two weeks having strained a hamstring during the Carling Cup tie against Ipswich last month.

Having started training again this week, Tootle now has a week to show he is match fit according to Dario.

But Tootle will have to dislodge stand-in right back Mat Mitchel-King from the team. King, normally a centre back or midfielder, has stood in for the Lincoln and Stevenage games without any problems, although he is lucky to be alive it seems!

Dario said of MMK: 'I think I would have shot him if Stevenage had scored with that last free-kick on Saturday. He knows I would have shot him afterwards and he has learnt from that.'

* A Crewe Alex reserve side were soundly beaten by a strong Stoke City side this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly.

Eidur Gudjohnsen, Ricardo Fuller and Jermaine Pennant all played a part in the match in which Stoke's new signing Kenwyne Jones netted.

Stoke eventually won the game 3-1, Marc Wilson and Ricardo Fuller scoring their other two goals. Byron Moore netted what was to be a consolation for the Railwaymen after making the most of a mistake by defender Robert Huth.

The team that turned out for the Alex was largely fringe players with only Mat Mitchel-King starting in Saturday's trip to Stevenage - perhaps a clue as to his fate for this Saturday?

Team: Bartek Fogler, Mat Mitchel-King, Trialist x2, Lewis Short, Adam Dugdale, Harry Davis, Byron Moore, Joel Grant, Antoni Sarcevic, AJ Leitch-Smith, Jordan Connerton, Kelvin Mellor, Danny Shelley
