Dario Rubbishes Grant Rumours

After rumours of a move for Joel Grant to Shrewsbury over the weekend Dario says that he has no intention of letting the winger go.

Grant was supposedly in talks over a 80,000 move to League Two rivals Shrewsbury over the weekend, though the deal apparently 'collapsed' after the Shropshire club secured the signing of Lionel Ainsworth from Huddersfield Town,

Despite the story being feasible, with Grant now out of Dario's first 11 and failing to impress this summer, Dario says that he hasn't even the intention of letting the former Aldershot man leave the club. speaking to www.crewealex.net, Dario said:

'I know nothing about any rumours concerning Joel Grant. No-one has spoken to me about Joel and I have no intention of letting him go.

'Joel has been ill lately and that has set him back a bit. Because of that he is still in pre-season training as far as I am concerned. He hasn't had chance to get himself going but I'm sure he will.

'He has terrific skill and every manager who has ever worked with him will tell you that. It is just a question of him realising his potential.'

Or is Dario bluffing? I'm not sure - the 80,000 price tag was dubious!

However, Grant is one player frustrating Alex fans at the moment. After arriving two years ago for 130,000 he has failed to shine as many hoped, failing to becoming the 'new Rodney Jack'.

Despite possessing all the talent he has failed to put it to use on the pitch with matching winning performances few and far between, although he claimed 11 goals last season.

Whether he goes this month or not, it would be surprising if the club kept him on beyond his current contract which expires at the end of the season.
