Dario Undecided On Captain

Dario will give several players the chance to be captain for the new season, promising not to rely on one particular player.

Although fans assumed that the returning Lee Bell would be handed the captain's armband without a fuss it seems Dario is less certain on who he wants leading the team - suggesting he'll opt for a rotation of the armband instead.

New signing David Artell captained the side to a 1-0 over West Brom on Tuesday night but Dario says he is also looking to youngster Ashley Westwood as well as Lee Bell as potential captain material.

None would be too unwelcome to the Alex faithful. Artell is already a clear natural leader whilst Bell, a local lad, captained Macclesfield on occasions last season. Westy, the 'golden boy' of the team right now, though not a obvious choice, would be popular nonetheless and it would no doubt be a shrewd decision from Dario in regards to the youngster's development.

Then there also the likes of Mat Mitchel-King and Steve Phillips eyeing up the arm band. King was captain of occasions last season and took the arm band for the final minutes against West Brom but faces uncertainty over whether he will be in Dario's first 11 come August 7th. Phillips meanwhile would no doubt be a leading contender, he is after all our most experienced player, but being sidelined till September has probably scuppered his chances.
