Roberts Has 'Turned The Corner'

Former Alex midfielder Gary Roberts says he has turned the corner and now wants to prove his worth at [soon to be] new club Port Vale.

Roberts is due to sign a short term contract with the Valiants after impressing in pre-season training - three months after being sacked by his third club, Rotherham.

His track record needs little explaining to us Alex fans; poor discipline, drink and gambling issues and two sackings inside a year after leaving Gresty Road. We know just what a ticking time bomb Roberts is.

Now what seems to be an annual occurrence, Roberts is once again certain he's turned his life and career around. Which is kind of the same thing we heard three years ago when Steve Holland couldn't convince him to turn up for games.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Roberts said:

'I've turned the corner but I've got to show everyone else that I've turned the corner.'

'I think I've got my act together but I've just got to keep living each day as it comes and as long as I wake up clean that's all that I need.'

Taking that with a pinch of salt, will Roberts manage to see out his proposed six month contract at Vale Park? I don't think odds would be favourable.

Meanwhile, Vale have signed former Alex trainee Richie Sutton on a free transfer to add to their ever growing collection of Alex rejects, which also includes Stuart Tomlinson and defender Adam Yates. Wonder if they want Shaun Miller?
