Crewe Smash Eight Past Lancaster

The Alex made it three out of three in pre-season this evening, thrashing non-league Lancaster City 8-1.

A strong side travelled to the Giant Axe ground despite Dario choosing to rest of the likes of Calvin Zola, David Artell and Ashley Westwood in place of trialists.

Whilst former Lancaster striker Jordan Connerton faced his old team mates for the first time, the 20 year old failed to get on the score sheet.

Instead that honour fell to... well, half the side. Clayton Donaldson popped up with two of the goals following his return from a tendonitis problem whilst Shaun Miller, Danny Shelley and Matt Tootle all added to the score.

The remaining three goals were accounted for by trialists. Former Alex trainee, now looking to return to Gresty Road, Adam Dugdale got one, as did midfielder Lewis Short. Finally the highly rated Jimmy McCarthy did his chances no harm of earning a deal with a late goal.

Dario of course mentioned this week that the trialists should know one way or another if they have done enough to earn a deal at the club by next week. One of left backs Chris Stokes and Danny Blanchett are the most likely to be retained whilst Dario has expressed that he's been impressed with both McCarthy and Dugdale in their time at Reaseheath.

Finally, here's the squad that travelled to Lancaster, minus the trialists.

Squad vs Lancaster: Matt Tootle, Patrick Ada, Clayton Donaldson, Luke Murphy, Shaun Miller, Joel Grant, Lee Bell, Rhys Taylor, Byron Moore, Jordan Connerton, Dan Shelley, AJ Leitch-Smith, Kelvin Mellor, Carl Martin, Harry Davis

As always, the loyal following on the Vital Crewe Message Board will no doubt be on giving all the gossip from the game, so get yourself on there if you want to stay bang up to date.
