Double Win On Opening Friendly Night

Double Win On Opening Friendly Night

Two Alex sides claimed wins at Quorn and Kidsgrove last night as the pre-season friendlies got under way.

As usual, Dario split his side up in order to get two games played in a single night. A trip to Quorn, a fixture agreement still standing from Luke Varney's move to Gresty Road, produced a fine 4-0 win whilst at Kidsgrove Calvin Zola netted a hat-trick in a 2-3 win.

It was a slow night at Quorn with the score still 0-0 at half time, only in the opening minutes of the second half did Ajay Leitch-Smith open the scoring. It was then goalless again until the final ten minutes when Ajay Leitch-Smith added to the tally along with youngster Sean Cooke and new signing Jordan Connerton.

Meanwhile at Kidsgrove Calvin Zola got his pre-season off to a fine start with a hat-trick over Kidsgrove. The non-leaguers did keep the game tight at 3-2 but the Alex came through without embarrassment.

The only blot on the evening was an injury to defender Mat Mitchel-King at Kidsgrove.

Neither result offers much in the way of clues as to how the new season will go with these friendlies offering nothing more than a chance for players to get minutes under their belt after two months without a game.
