Former Hoops Keeper On Trial

Former QPR goalkeeper Shane McWeeney has joined the Alex on trial with a view of earning a deal at Gresty Road.

Despite the signing of Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor on a two month loan, the Alex are still short of cover whilst first choice Steve Phillips recovers from a shoulder operation. Dario is now hoping to bring in a cheap option to back up Taylor at the start of the season.

20 year old McWeeney joins having been released by QPR having failed to make a first team appearance for the club. He's set to play a part in tonight's trip to Kidsgrove, giving him a chance to impress, whilst loanee Taylor will be in the side to face Quorn.

McWeeney is one of several players on trial at Reaseheath as he joins former Peterborough defender Danny Blanchett, former Alex trainee Adam Dugdale, the much hyped Jimmy McCarthy along with former Man City youngster Matt Brown and former Bolton left back and Alex loanee Chris Stokes.
