Derby At Home In Carling Cup

It was the only possible tie really. Gresty Road will see the return of old boys John Brayford and James Bailey (and Robbie Savage... and Rob Hulse... possibly Luke Varney?) for the first round of the Carling Cup.

The Alex will face Derby County in the week commencing August 9th 2010 at Gresty Road, with August 10th the most likely date. It will come just a couple of months after James Bailey and John Brayford completed a 1million combined move to Pride Park.

Derby's team could in fact nearly be half made up of former Alex talent with Rob Hulse, Robbie Savage and Luke Varney also in their ranks. Rejected trialist from 2008 Jake Buxton is also a key figure in the Rams squad.

So, one fixture down, 46 to go this week. The full fixture list is released tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 9:00am.
