Dario: No Amount Money Will Buy Powell!

Dario has ruled out newspaper reports suggesting that Arsenal are due to swoop for one of the bright young talents in the Alex's academy.

Various national newspapers suggested that Arsene Wenger was ready to try and tempt 16 year old Nick Powell down to London after his impressive displays for the England U-16's this year.

After previous rumours of Powell's team mate Max Clayton being watched keenly by Liverpool, there was an expectancy within the Alex faithful that the future of the Alex were about to be tempted by the big bucks of the Premier League.

Dario however came out today to say there is not a hope in hell of anyone taking the likes of Powell and Clayton away. Having secured them on four year contracts, Dario is now looking to ease them into his first team sooner rather than later.

Speaking to crewealex.net, Dario drew comparisons with Arsenal's interest in a 16 year old Dean Ashton (who didn't turn out too badly):

'Our Academy youngsters are not for sale at any price. We would never get that far to discussing a price because they are not available. It was the same when Arsenal asked about Dean Ashton. David Dein phoned me and said there must be a price you would be prepared to sell him for and I told him there wasn't. There was no point even discussing it. He accepted that.

'We want to keep our good young players for our own supporters. We want them to see them play for Crewe and enjoy the same satisfaction as we do and enjoy their progress.

'If someone like Nick Powell went to Arsenal and didn't come through we would always be thinking would he have done if he had stayed here.'

So rest easy, it looks like we can still look forward to seeing the likes of Powell and Clayton in Alex shirts. Next season perhaps?
