Bell Turned Down Extra Money For Crewe

Lee Bell has completed his return to Crewe and is delighted to be back in red.

The 27 year old midfielder signed a two year contract with the club today, three years after departing Gresty Road for Burton Albion.

Arriving on the back of a superb season at Macclesfield Town - where he won Player of the Season - Bell now looks set to go straight into the Alex midfield for the new season and looking odds on to be named captain.

His return wasn't always a foregone conclusion however; much depended on James Bailey's move to Derby and Bell was even set to go elsewhere after turning down a contract extension at Macclesfield with Burton Albion thought to be interested.

Despite being offered more money elsewhere, Bell says there was no question of where he was heading once Dario made his interest known. Living local and coaching part time in the Crewe Alex academy only helped him make up his mind.

Speaking to crewechronicle.co.uk, the Crewe born midfielder said:

"It was something I just couldn`t turn down. I never thought it would happen and I cannot wait for the season to start now.

"There was a fair bit of interest and I was close to joining another club but then I heard there was some interest from Crewe and it all happened very quickly.

"I don`t have an agent and if I`m honest wasn`t really that bothered what they were offering me.

"I was offered better money elsewhere but coming back to Crewe is just the perfect move for me.'

Regardless what you think of Bell's ability, you cannot fault that attitude. If only others were as eager to pull on the red and white of Crewe Alex!

Welcome back Bell!
