There's Money To Spend... If We Need It

Dario says that money is there to spend if needed as James Bailey and John Brayford look set to complete their moves to Derby County.

The veteran manager fully expects the young Alex pair to complete their moves to Pride Park this week, with the Alex netting a "guaranteed £1million" in the deal.

The money means that the club are not under pressure to sell the likes of Ashley Westwood, Calvin Zola and Clayton Donaldson, who are bound to attract some interest this transfer window. It also means there`s a few spare pennies in the pot to strengthen the side.

Dario has already made clear his intention to sign a left back and at least one dominant centre back following the departures of Billy Jones, Danny O`Donnell and Harry Worley`s return to his parent club Leicester. A right back could be also on the wish list, though it`s unlikely to be a direct replacement for Brayford with Matt Tootle looking like his natural successor.

This week`s windfall however doesn`t mean the club will be spending huge sums, Dario says. It`s unlikely any outgoing fee will be much above £100,000 at most, with Dario saying big fees are a thing of the past. He told CreweAlex.net:

'We do have some money to spend and the board usually find it if we spot an investment. The days of paying £500,000 for a player are over and even £200,000 like we did for Zola - but there is money there if we need to spend it. I won't spend it for the sake of it though.

'I haven't had any interest in any more of my players and I do hope that remains the case. We are a selling club and need to balance the books to survive but we don't particularly enjoy selling our better players.

"Our objective now is to look to bring players in. We need some defenders, even more so now that John is set to move to Derby."
