'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Welcome to Oxford United

Oxford United have returned to the league after winning the Conference Play-Off Final at Wembley today.

After a four year exile in the Blue Square Premier, Chris Wilder's Us confirmed their place in League Two for next season with a 3-1 win over Martin Foyle's York City.

It also means a return to league football for former Alex defender, and boo boys favourite, Anthony Tonkin. Once costing the Alex £150k, he was released from Gresty Road in 2006. He spent a year at Yeovil before dropping out of the league, having spells at Forest Green and Cambridge before signing for Oxford last year.

Today's result will mean a trip to the Kassam Stadium for the Alex and yet another new ground for Alex fans to take in. We last met Oxford back in 1999 in the dizzy heights of Division One (the Championship) when their home was the Manor Ground.

It almost completes the League Two line up for next season having already seen Stevenage promoted as winners of the Conference whilst Wycombe, Stockport, Southend and Gillingham drop from League One.

One team is still to depart the league with Aldershot, Rotherham, Dagenham and Morecambe fighting it out in the play-offs this week, though Morecambe's 6-0 defeat to Dagenham in the first leg of the play-off semi-final today probably means another trip to the sea side next season.
