Steve Phillips Released From Bristol Rovers

The path is clear for keeper Steve Phillips to sign up at Gresty Road after the shot stopper was released from Bristol Rovers today.

Phillips was, as expected, told by Rovers that his contract wouldn't be renewed this summer and he was free to find a new club.

Having spent the last seven months on loan at Gresty Road, becoming the new number one for the Alex, Phillips is now expected to sign up on a two year deal with the club. The 32 year old had previously turned down a 2 and a half year contract at the Alex in January after failing to agree his release from Rovers.

There is of course nothing stopping Phillips scouting around for another club but it seems a gentleman's agreement, at least, is there for Phillips to remain.

He is currently recovering from a shoulder operation which he underwent prior to the final game of the season last week.
