Ward Heads to Tranmere

Experienced goalkeeper Gavin Ward has rejected Crewe to sign for League One rivals Tranmere Rovers on a free transfer. The 35-year old had been released by Preston and was offered a one-year deal as a player/coach at Crewe, where he would start as the second choice keeper. However, Ward is supposedly set to be first choice keeper at Tranmere, an offer which proved too great to resist. However, the more likely reasons are financial, with Ward expected to have to challenge for a first team spot at Tranmere, just as would have been the case at Crewe. Regardless of the reasons for joining, the 6'3 keeper has signed for the Prenton Park outfit, who will become the 14th club of his career. It is believed the contract is a one-year deal.

Although not a major blow to Crewe's plans for next season, Ward's move to Tranmere represents the second rejection in favour of League One rivals in two days, following Jamie McCombe's move to Bristol City yesterday.

It looks as if he thinks he can have another year as 1st choice on good money and has gone for it. Got to take what you can at the moment.
