Stoke Ordered To Pay Up For Lund

A tribunal have set a fee for former Alex youngster Matthew Lund this week following his departure 12 months ago.

Both Lund and team mate Ben Marshall exited the club's academy and followed former boss Steve Holland to Stoke last summer as former Potters boss Gudjon Thordarson slowly isolated the academy youngsters from the first team.

The tribunal, held on Thursday, finally saw Stoke having to pay £80,000 up front for the teenager. Also in the deal is a 20% sell on clause whilst first team appearances and England caps could see the fee raise to as much as £430,000.

It represents a good deal for the Alex, who never actually saw Lund sign professional terms with the club.

The club now await the fee for Lund's team mate Ben Marshall to be settled. Whilst Lund has spent his first year at Stoke in the reserve side, Marshall has impressed massively on loan at the likes of Northampton, Cheltenham and Carlisle. Marshall's progress will hopefully add weight to Crewe's case and see an even bigger fee.
