Oldham have emerged as contenders for Gareth Taylor's signature. Following a successful loan spell at Crewe, the 33-year old was released by Nottingham Forest as they looked to offload his hefty £5k a week from their wage bill. There has already been interest in Taylor - reportedly from Plymouth and Southend, but Taylor is reported to be hesistant to join a club so far from his Cheshire home in Knutsford.
Oldham boss Ronnie Moore revealed, 'He's the kind of striker we're looking for, so I've registered our interest.' With both clubs situated less 30 miles from his Knutsford home, the battle for Taylor's signature is likely to be fairly close. A deciding factor may prove to be the length of contract on offer. Crewe have offered the former Welsh international a 1-year deal, while the length of contract Oldham are willing to offer is unknown.
