Wonder Kid Clayton Signs Up

Crewe have secured the future of young hot shot Max Clayton, fighting off competition from the likes of Liverpool.

The 16 year old, son of former Alex striker Paul Clayton, was earlier this season linked with a switch to Liverpool as the 'poaching scandal' hit it's peak in the national press.

Dario hit the headlines when he revealed that Clayton was subject to an illegal approach from one of the big four clubs, saying it was 'the rich robbing the poor'.

With the departure of Gudjon Thordarson and the return of the Gradi way back in October the club managed to plug the leak in the academy, with youngsters Matt Lund and Ben Marshall having already switched to Stoke City.

Clayton, along with other highly rated youngsters in his age group, have now been tied to Crewe for the next couple of years at least.

Earlier this season Clayton, along with U-16 team mate Nick Powell, made his England U-16 debut and Dario has reportedly hinted that the current U-16 group are his 'best yet'.
