Former Crewe stopper Steve Collis could be about to secure a contract at Bristol City for the rest of the season.
The Alex released Collis just before Christmas after he dropped to third choice at Gresty Road behind young Adam Legzdins and former Bristol City number one Steve Phillips.
He arrived under Steve Holland's management in summer 2008 and was soon installed between the sticks. However upon Holland's sacking in November 2008 Collis's time as first choice keeper came to a swift end, with his future rocked just months into his Crewe career.
Collis made just three more appearances, all under Gudjon Thordarson, with his final game coming in the nightmare 5-3 defeat at Accrington Stanley. With Steve Phillips' arrival in November, Collis and the club came to an agreement over the final six months of his contract at the end of December, leaving the 29 year old free to find a new club.
Teaming up with his former Yeovil boss Gary Johnson, Collis is now training at Championship side Bristol City in the hope of securing a deal.
Collis played over 40 games for Johnson at Yeovil and speaking to the Bristol Evening Post Johnson says that a six month deal for Collis is not out of the question.
'Steve is a player I know very well from my time at Yeovil and he is a very capable keeper.
'Not a lot of people are aware of his situation and he's sneaked under the radar to an extent. We have an opportunity to land ourselves a very good keeper who could provide strong competition for Dean Gerken.
'Our supporters know how good a keeper Chris Weale is and there is nothing between him and Steve Collis. Choosing between the two of them was always one of my toughest jobs during my time at Yeovil.'
