Elding Leaves Crewe

Anthony Elding has left Crewe Alexandra after he and the club agree to terminate his contract.

Elding, who arrived at the club in the summer of 2008, for £170,000, by then manager Steve Holland, failed to make an impact, scoring just 3 goals in his alex career.

It had looked like Elding would play a large part this season when Gudjon Thordarson gave Elding the vice captaincy and used him throughout pre season in a role playing in the 'hole'.

His time at the club is likely to be remembered for the wrong reasons by the fans however. Last season he was made to apologise after his reactions to being subbed for Tom Pope and at the start of this season he was involved in numerous incidents with fans and rumours of training ground bust ups emerged.

Elding, who has spent time on loan at Lincoln and Kettering after falling down the pecking order since arrivivng at the Alexandra Stadium has been today linked with a move to hungarian premier league side Ferencvaros.

After agreeing the termination, Elding told the offical club site, crewealex.net.

'I would like to thank everyone at Crewe Alexandra for everything they have done for me, the staff, the coaches, the fans, everyone. I wish them them all the luck for the rest of the season and beyond and thank them for bringing me here and giving me a chance to resurrect my career. Unfortunately, this is the way things go in football sometimes, but I am very grateful for everything that Crewe have done for me.'
