Collis Could Be Released

Crewe could pay up the remainder of goalkeeper Steve Collis' contract as the transfer window re-opens at the end of the week.

After signing for the club on a free in the summer of 2008 Collis was made number one keeper under the management of Steve Holland.

However, Holland's departure from the club was the beginning of the end for Collis at Gresty Road. The 28 year old has made just three appearances since Holland's sacking in November 2008, his last coming in this season's forgettable match at Accrington Stanley.

Since the arrival of Gudjon Thordarson Collis has been free to leave the club but with his high wages offloading him is easier said than done. With six months remaining on his contract though he may exit the club earlier than anticipated as Dario & the club will now reportedly look to end Collis's contract, paying up the remainder of it.

The move will be one to free up space as Dario starts to prepare for the January transfer window, which opens this Friday. Top of his list is securing Steve Phillips on a permanent deal but whilst a two and a half year deal for Phillips is on the table talks between Phillips, Crewe and Bristol Rovers over the 30 year old's remaining contract at Rovers seem to be stalling.

On top of that there are reports that other clubs are now beginning to take an interest in the 'keeper, with his former loan club Shrewsbury Town said to be preparing an offer.
